Carrick’s Hack (/ˈkɛrɪks hæk/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Highwyn Dutchy, Ipoulan Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Carrick’s Hack is derived from the Sylvin language, as Carrick’s Hack was founded by Cú̄s Yóó̄ 'Buff Lianna' Ca̋mé̄ Vúnvó Së̌ Langley, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Carrick’s Hack has a yearly average temperature of 21°C (69°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 30°C (86°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 12°C (53°F). Carrick’s Hack receives an average of 241 cm/y (94 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Carrick’s Hack covers an area of nearly 6 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 1384 m (4540 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Carrick’s Hack was founded durring the early 13th century in fall of the year 1235, by Cú̄s Yóó̄ 'Buff Lianna' Ca̋mé̄ Vúnvó Së̌ Langley. The establishment of the new community went well, though many minor issues had to be solved as time went on. This was enough to delay construction and push back the formal opening ceramony, leading to some embarisment for Cú̄s Yóó̄ 'Buff Lianna' Ca̋mé̄ Vúnvó Së̌ Langley.

Carrick’s Hack was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 13th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Carrick’s Hack is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature masoned stone construction which prominantly features pointed arches, pointed ribbed vault cielings, flying buttress', and window tracery all of which share a simmilar gemoetetic patern halfway between organic and inorganic in design formaing a very distinct aesthetically integrated style. BUildings tend to reach for the havens, and more expencive homes are easily identified by their floor count as well as the addition of decorative features intigrated into the building's design such as statues, gargoyals, and embelished joinery.

Carrick’s Hack is buildings are arranged arround a network of spacious cobblestone streets which form a grid, where each square verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller square has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town is protected by a renforced stone fence which sits atop earthwork defences, for some of the best inexpencive defences a town of Carrick’s Hack's size could have. The well-designed, yet cheep has suffered a visible ammount of structural damage, leaving them effectivly useless. One can't help but wonder why the has not yet effected repairs.

Your first impression of Carrick’s Hack proves to be right on the money. This town is where the rebels chose to settle. Fashion trends are quite simply the opposite of what’s popular in the other nearby communities. THis trend extends everywhere. Things that should be black are white, what would normally be square is organically curved, and what is typically unthinkable for polite society is more than welcome in this public square. Up to the logical limits, of course. There’s no flaying someone alive to eat their skin going on, but the women are dressed a little immodestly, the men are a little more emotional, and the food is all overly complex and terrible.

Civic Infrastructure

Carrick’s Hack has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Carrick’s Hack. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Carrick’s Hack's parks.

Carrick’s Hack has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Carrick’s Hack.

Carrick’s Hack has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Carrick’s Hack has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Carrick’s Hack has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Carrick’s Hack's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Carrick’s Hack possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. These lights provide nighttime illumination to most city streets.

Carrick’s Hack has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Carrick’s Hack's natural decorations nor waterways.

Carrick’s Hack has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Carrick’s Hack has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Carrick’s Hack's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is famous for its stately symmetry, classical elements, and grand appearance. Columns and pillars, such as Corinthian columns, are often seen supporting open structures or porticos. Symmetry is an important feature of this style, with each half of a building mirroring the other. Domed ceilings and windows grace these buildings, with everything placed in a mathematical arrangement.

Due to the actions of local Kami, summer is recurring in Carrick’s Hack.

The Lich Newt near Carrick’s Hack are known to be quite timid.

Carrick’s Hack's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in autumn and involves drinking to channel Charm energies of tier 1 via throat chanting.
